Video Podcasting-Get into the Movie Business

By Larry Gildea

Podcasting is a method of delivering files to the internet. These files can be downloaded to an instrument, generally an iPod, via an RSS feed. RSS is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated digital content, such as blogs, news feeds or podcasts. The initials "RSS" are variously used to refer to the following standards: Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0), Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0) and RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0). A video podcast is like a regular podcast but in video format. That is, it is a video clip designed to be viewed in a portable device.

There are several steps in making a video podcast. They are:

  1. Shoot the video footage you need
  2. Compress the video
  3. Describe or tag your movie
  4. Distribute the video

First you must create a good concept. Once the concept has been validated it is time to shoot the film. In order to shoot your video it is best to use a digital camera. Since your video will more than likely be viewed on an iPod? The iPod screen is small and will not be able to show a great deal of detail. Take you camera shoots close to the objects you are filming. Use the standard mode for filming. Do not use the wide screen mode. Also, it is smart to optimize band width and battery power by shooting in small burst instead of in loon filming segments. If you plan to have text in your film make sure it is shot close enough to show up legibly on your film. Finally, do a thorough editing job to make certain you have a good film.

Once you have your film complete, the next task is compressing the film for export. Compression optimizes the film so it can be shown on iPod and web screens. Compression done on a Mac computer is different from compression on a PC. On the MAC you can compress and export your video using iMovie HD6 simply by clicking the following:

FILE>Export>iPod>Share.

It's as easy as that – the software automatically converts the file and shares it on iTunes. Quick Time Pro version 7.0.3 or higher can be used for compression and export on a PC.

Simply click Export > Using Quick Time.

Next the movie must be described or tagged. The information entered here will be the basis for searching for your movie later on. For iMovies it is simple. Just drag the movie into iTune and input your description. For PC users, create an XML document and upload it to your web server.

Finally, you are ready to distribute your video. One way is to submit your podcast to iTunes. Another way is to create an RSS feed and put your podcast on your blog. Another method is to submit your podcast to various directories. The important point here is that if you want exposure for you podcast you must promote it.

Video podcasts are simply podcasts in video format. Video podcasts are not very complicated and are easy to make. There are for basic steps in making a video podcast. Those steps are: Shoot the footage, compress the video, describe and tag it and distribute it. Get in the movie business. Make your own video podcasts.

By Sean R Mize

Business promotion has increased yet another level higher in terms of creativity of implementation by way of podcasting. Aside from sending out emailers and posting advertisements on different sites, people are now beginning to utilize the audio aspect of promotion. Add to that the advent of the portable mp3 player (thanks to portable music guru Apple), which allows people to actually carry around your ads with them the whole day. In order to make more money out of podcasting, here are nine breakthrough ways you might want to consider following:

1. Make a plan on how you will execute your podcast. This plan should include the best way that you can describe your business.

2. Next, you need to choose and record a sound clip that best describes the nature of your business to make a podcast.

3. Consider renting a studio to do your recording – this will eliminate noise that is not included in your recording and give it a more professional tone.

4. Aside from renting a studio, use the latest sound mixing software that can help you customize and create add ons to your podcast so it becomes more interesting for the listeners to hear.

5. Rehearse your podcast and make several recordings to choose from. Choose the best podcast – one that has the least amount of noise pollution and best sound quality.

6. Next, convert your recording into various forms such as .mp3 or .wav. This way you can offer your pod cast to different users all using different forms of devices.

7. Now it’s time to publish your podcast! Make sure that you hire a good podcasting server so you can generate more downloads and thus increase your profits.

8. Do not just stop at one podcast – update it from time to time and offer more downloads about your other products. Once the download numbers go up, it means you have a market that is interested to hear about what you have to say, so continually offer them podcasts that they would like to hear.

9. Your podcast can also be used to get sponsors that will make your recording even more popular. This not only generates bigger profits for you, but also makes you a well-known name in the media.
